Job Description

Are you passionate about marine life, education, and inspiring the next generation of conservationists? Blue Reef Aquarium Tynemouth is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Public Education Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental education, program development, and public engagement within a vibrant zoo and aquarium setting. You will play a key role in delivering engaging educational content, assisting with workshops, and contributing to the overall visitor experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational programs for diverse audiences, including school groups and general visitors.
  • Support educators during workshops, presentations, and guided tours, ensuring a high-quality learning experience.
  • Help maintain educational materials and resources, including exhibits, activity sheets, and digital content.
  • Engage with visitors on the aquarium floor, answering questions and providing interpretive information about marine animals and conservation.
  • Participate in outreach events and community programs to promote marine education and the aquarium's mission.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of educational programs, gathering feedback and suggesting improvements.
  • Undertake administrative tasks as required to support the education department.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for marine biology, zoology, environmental conservation, or education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and contribute.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduate of a degree program in Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience volunteering or working in an informal education setting (e.g., museum, zoo, nature center).
  • Experience working with children or leading group activities.
  • Basic knowledge of UK marine life and ecosystems.
