Job Description
Are you a CDL-A licensed driver looking to re-enter the trucking industry after a break? FedEx Freight’s CDL-A Refresher Course – Back to Work Program offers a paid, comprehensive training opportunity designed to help you brush up on your skills, get re-acquainted with modern equipment, and regain confidence behind the wheel. This program is tailored for experienced drivers whose CDL-A license may be expired or who simply need a structured environment to get back into the rhythm of commercial driving. Upon successful completion of the refresher course, participants will transition into a full-time CDL-A Linehaul or P&D Driver position with FedEx Freight, enjoying competitive pay, excellent benefits, and a stable career path.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all aspects of the CDL-A refresher training program, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction.
- Demonstrate safe driving practices and adherence to all traffic laws and company safety protocols during training.
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and on time.
- Operate various types of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in a safe and efficient manner upon program completion.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections according to DOT regulations and company policy.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding commercial vehicle operation.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing FedEx Freight.
- Ensure timely and safe delivery of freight as a full-time driver after the refresher course.
Required Skills
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A).
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen.
- Clean motor vehicle record (MVR) for the past three years.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Basic knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of verifiable CDL-A driving experience prior to any break in service.
- Experience with LTL freight operations.
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement.
