Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy. In this vital role, you will work under the direct supervision of teaching staff to assist in the teaching and learning activities within the classroom. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about education, eager to support student development, and contribute to a positive and effective learning environment. You will support individual students or small groups, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support to students, individually or in small groups, as directed by the class teacher.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Support students with special educational needs (SEN) or those with additional learning requirements.
  • Help to manage classroom behavior and ensure a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
  • Supervise students during break times, lunchtimes, and school trips as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to teachers.
  • Assist with personal care for students if necessary, respecting privacy and dignity.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals regarding student progress and well-being.
  • Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN.

Required Skills

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting student learning and development.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work proactively.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Knowledge of common educational software and classroom technologies.
