Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Public Lands Groundskeeper to join our Municipal Services team. This vital role is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all public parks, green spaces, sports fields, recreational facilities, and municipal grounds within the Town of Port aux Basques. The ideal candidate will be passionate about outdoor work, possess a strong work ethic, and be committed to maintaining the aesthetic appeal and safety of our community’s shared spaces. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general groundskeeping duties including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, and pruning of trees and shrubs.
  • Maintain flower beds, planters, and other landscaped areas, including planting, watering, and fertilizing.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment and tools such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and small hand tools.
  • Conduct regular inspections of public grounds for hazards, damage, or maintenance needs, reporting issues as required.
  • Assist with seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow removal, and ice management.
  • Ensure cleanliness of public areas by picking up litter and emptying waste receptacles.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on outdoor facilities like benches, picnic tables, and playground equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, using personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Collaborate with team members and other town departments to achieve community beautification goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field is an asset, but enthusiastic candidates with a strong work ethic will be considered.
  • Ability to operate various landscaping equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic plant care and horticultural practices.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Experience with snow removal equipment.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
