Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and meticulous Hospital Cleaner to join our dedicated facilities team at our Penzance location. In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across various areas of the hospital, including patient wards, treatment rooms, corridors, and communal spaces. Your work directly contributes to patient safety, infection control, and creating a comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitising surfaces in assigned areas.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, operating theatres, laboratories, and other clinical areas according to strict hospital hygiene protocols.
  • Empty waste bins and dispose of clinical and general waste safely and efficiently.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Maintain cleanliness of washrooms and sanitary facilities.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including COSHH guidelines for handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Report any maintenance issues, damage, or hazards observed during cleaning duties.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the cleaning team and hospital staff.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained, cleaned, and stored correctly.

Required Skills

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety in a workplace environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous cleaning experience, preferably in a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
  • Understanding of infection control principles.
