Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Orthopedic Surgeon to join our dynamic team within the Trauma and Orthopedics department at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. The successful candidate will provide expert surgical and medical care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions, including trauma, degenerative diseases, sports injuries, and congenital deformities. This role demands a commitment to patient safety, continuous professional development, and collaborative teamwork to deliver outstanding outcomes. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to our service’s reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of orthopedic surgical procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopy, fracture fixation, and relevant spinal surgeries.
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments and post-operative care, ensuring patient safety and optimal recovery paths.
  • Accurately diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions using clinical examination, advanced imaging, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Actively participate in on-call rotations for emergency orthopedic and trauma cases, providing timely and effective interventions.
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and other specialists to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Contribute significantly to clinical governance, audit cycles, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Mentor and supervise junior medical staff, actively participating in teaching and training programs for future generations of surgeons.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records in compliance with professional and organizational standards.

Required Skills

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a valid licence to practice.
  • Completion of CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery or equivalent specialist registration.
  • Extensive experience in a broad range of orthopedic surgical techniques and patient management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex orthopedic cases independently with confidence and expertise.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills essential for a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship training in a sub-specialty of Orthopedic Surgery (e.g., Spine, Arthroplasty, Sports Medicine).
  • Proven experience in medical education, teaching, or significant contributions to research.
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England or equivalent professional body.
