Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and physically capable Lighting Technician’s Mate to join our dynamic production team. This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about live events, climbing, and rigging to embark on a challenging and rewarding career path with high earning potential. As a Lighting Technician’s Mate, you will play a crucial supporting role in the setup, operation, and teardown of complex lighting and rigging systems for large-scale events. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, a willingness to learn specialized climbing and rigging techniques, and the ability to work effectively at heights. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead lighting technicians with the assembly, installation, and positioning of lighting fixtures and related equipment.
  • Learn and practice safe climbing techniques, including the use of harnesses, ropes, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support rigging crew in the safe and efficient installation and dismantling of overhead truss systems, motors, and scenic elements.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on lighting and rigging equipment to ensure operational readiness and safety standards.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines meticulously, especially when working at heights or with heavy loads.
  • Load and unload equipment from trucks and prepare gear for transport.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, both on the ground and at height.
  • Collaborate effectively with other crew members, including audio, video, and stage management teams.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance skills in lighting technology, rigging mechanics, and safety procedures.

Required Skills

  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) and work for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working at significant heights and in challenging environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various job sites.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a stagehand, production assistant, or general labor role.
  • Basic understanding of theatrical lighting or rigging principles.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Proficiency with various types of knots and rigging hardware.
  • Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, or boom lifts (certification a plus).
