Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our dynamic team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This challenging yet rewarding full-time position involves providing expert surgical care for a wide range of conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. The successful candidate will contribute to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and complex surgical procedures, ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient safety. You will work within a collaborative environment, participating in teaching, research, and audit activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of conditions, including trauma, pathology, deformities, and infections of the head and neck.
  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical governance activities.
  • Contribute to on-call rotas for emergency cases and provide timely interventions.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, participating in their training and development.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, research, and service improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and General Dental Council (GDC).
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England/Edinburgh/Glasgow in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of active participation in audit and quality improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD) in a relevant field.
  • Sub-specialty interest and experience (e.g., craniofacial trauma, head and neck oncology).
  • Experience in a teaching hospital environment and academic contributions.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
