Job Description
Join our dedicated team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Medical Center Porter. This essential service role involves the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies throughout the hospital, ensuring smooth operations and contributing directly to patient care in line with NHS standards. You will be a vital part of our operational framework, working tirelessly to support medical staff and provide a calm and reassuring presence for patients in a busy and diverse hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, including those with mobility issues, by wheelchair, trolley, or bed, to various departments, always prioritising their comfort and dignity.
- Move medical equipment, beds, furniture, and supplies between wards and departments as required, ensuring their proper handling and placement.
- Collect and deliver specimens, blood products, and confidential documents promptly and securely, adhering to all protocols.
- Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, maintaining utmost dignity and respect for the individual and their family.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of trolleys and wheelchairs, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to requests via radio or pager system, managing your time effectively.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, infection control policies, and NHS protocols to maintain a safe environment for all.
- Provide a courteous, helpful, and compassionate service to patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues for optimal patient care.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to handle manual handling tasks and navigate a large hospital environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Basic First Aid certification or willingness to undertake training.
