Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Broadcast Engineer to join our dynamic technical operations team. This contract role offers an excellent opportunity for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced media environment, ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of broadcast systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in broadcast engineering principles, signal flow, and troubleshooting across various platforms. This position requires a proactive individual capable of working independently and as part of a collaborative team to support our cutting-edge production and distribution infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain broadcast and IT-based systems for live and post-production environments.
- Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and emergency repairs on broadcast equipment, including cameras, switchers, routers, audio consoles, and video servers.
- Monitor broadcast signals for quality control and ensure compliance with technical standards.
- Provide technical support during live broadcasts, studio productions, and post-production workflows.
- Implement and manage network infrastructure related to broadcast operations, including IP-based video and audio systems.
- Document system configurations, maintenance procedures, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with production, IT, and other engineering teams to implement new technologies and resolve technical issues.
- Stay current with emerging broadcast technologies and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in broadcast engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in IP networking, routing, and switching as it applies to broadcast systems.
- Strong understanding of broadcast signal formats (SDI, HDMI, IP Video) and audio principles.
- Experience with various broadcast equipment manufacturers (e.g., Grass Valley, Sony, Imagine Communications, Blackmagic Design).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues quickly and effectively.
- Knowledge of digital video compression standards and streaming protocols.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Certifications such as SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) CBT, CTO, or CBNE.
- Experience with cloud-based broadcast solutions and virtualized environments.
- Familiarity with media asset management (MAM) systems.
- Prior experience working in a major studio or broadcast network environment.
