Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated College Student Research Fellow with a focus on Paleontology to join our dynamic research team. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in paleontological research, working alongside faculty and graduate students on ongoing projects. The fellow will contribute to various aspects of fossil preparation, curation, data analysis, and scientific communication, gaining invaluable skills in a professional research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty and graduate students with the preparation and conservation of fossil specimens.
  • Perform data entry and manage paleontological specimen records in databases.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research projects.
  • Support fieldwork activities, including specimen collection and site documentation, as opportunities arise.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Contribute to the development of research presentations or reports.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Geology, Biology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in paleontology, earth sciences, or evolutionary biology.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed at least one college-level course in paleontology, geology, or biology.
  • Previous experience with laboratory work or scientific research.
  • Familiarity with museum collections management systems or scientific databases.
  • Ability to interpret scientific literature.
