Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator to join our team in Lethbridge. This is an immediate hire position for individuals comfortable working in an outdoor environment, handling and organizing various lumber and building materials. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a forklift safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload materials, ensuring the yard remains organized and accessible. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to move, stack, and retrieve lumber and building materials within the yard.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, ensuring accuracy of materials and safe handling practices.
- Inspect materials for damage and report any discrepancies or issues.
- Organize and maintain the lumber yard, ensuring proper storage and easy access to products.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and report any maintenance needs.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies, especially concerning forklift operation and yard safety.
- Assist customers and other team members with locating and loading materials as needed.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations and efficient workflow.
Required Skills
- Valid forklift operator certification.
- Proven experience operating forklifts in an outdoor, industrial, or lumber yard setting.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold).
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and a team-player attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with different types of forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach truck).
- Familiarity with various lumber types and building materials.
- Previous experience in a retail or warehouse environment.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management systems.
