Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors? Do you love helping people discover the right gear for their next adventure? MEC in Powell River is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Outdoor & Camping Gear Outfitter to join our retail sales team. In this role, you’ll be the expert our members turn to for advice on everything from tents and sleeping bags to backpacking essentials. You’ll provide exceptional customer service, share your outdoor knowledge, and help connect our community with the gear that best suits their needs. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and guidance to members on outdoor and camping gear, ensuring they make informed purchasing decisions.
- Assist members with product selection, demonstrating features and benefits of various items.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, handling cash and card payments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor, including merchandising and restocking products.
- Stay up-to-date with new products, industry trends, and outdoor techniques.
- Handle member inquiries and resolve issues with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and store culture.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for outdoor activities, especially camping and hiking.
- Strong customer service orientation with a desire to help others.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail sales, particularly in outdoor gear.
- In-depth knowledge of specific outdoor equipment brands and categories.
- Experience with inventory management systems.
- First aid certification.
- Proficiency in more than one language.
