Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Game Designer to join our dynamic team in Swansea. As a Lead Game Designer, you will be instrumental in shaping the creative direction and core mechanics of our next-generation titles. You will lead a team of talented designers, guiding them from concept through to implementation, ensuring a cohesive and compelling player experience. This role requires a strong understanding of game design principles, a proven track record in the industry, and the ability to inspire and mentor others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of game designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Define and communicate the overall game vision, core mechanics, and player experience.
  • Develop and iterate on game systems, levels, and features from initial concept to final execution.
  • Collaborate closely with art, programming, and production teams to ensure design goals are met.
  • Conduct regular design reviews, playtesting sessions, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Champion player experience and advocate for design best practices throughout the development cycle.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor titles.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional game design experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior role.
  • Demonstrable experience shipping at least one major title in a design leadership capacity.
  • Expertise in game design principles, player psychology, and level design.
  • Proficiency with game development tools and engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with various game genres and platforms.
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles.
  • A portfolio demonstrating shipped titles and design contributions.
