Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled and compassionate ICU / Critical Care Nurses to join our dynamic team at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. You will be responsible for the direct care and management of critically ill patients, utilizing your expertise in advanced monitoring, life support systems, and complex medication management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Critical Care Unit, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Monitor vital signs, interpret physiological data, and operate advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and hemodynamic monitors.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, including infusions and titratable drugs.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans and provide emotional support.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance critical care skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration or eligibility for registration in the UK.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an ICU/Critical Care setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in managing ventilators, inotropes, and other critical care interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex situations.
  • Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing.
  • Experience with advanced life support certifications (e.g., ALS, ATLS).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in critical care.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring junior staff.
