Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Visitor to join our community health team in Exeter. As a Health Visitor, you will play a crucial role in promoting the health and well-being of children and families, from the antenatal period until school entry. You will work autonomously to deliver the Healthy Child Programme, providing expert advice, support, and interventions to address health needs, identify risks, and safeguard vulnerable children. This role requires a strong commitment to public health, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the Healthy Child Programme (0-5 years) to a defined caseload, undertaking health needs assessments and developing care plans.
- Provide expert advice and support to parents on child development, parenting, infant feeding, and public health issues.
- Identify and respond to concerns regarding child protection and safeguarding, working in collaboration with other agencies.
- Conduct home visits and deliver clinics in various community settings.
- Lead and manage a skill-mixed team, including Nursery Nurses and Community Staff Nurses.
- Contribute to multi-agency meetings and collaborate with GPs, social care, education, and other health professionals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, and service improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse or Midwife with active NMC registration.
- Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) qualification – Health Visiting.
- Demonstrable experience as a Health Visitor or in a related community nursing role.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload effectively.
- Knowledge of safeguarding children legislation and practices.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mentorship or practice education.
- Post-registration education relevant to public health or child development.
- Proficiency in using electronic patient record systems.
