Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Coffee Bean Sorter to join our team in Sooke, British Columbia. This is a crucial, sit-down role on our day shift, responsible for ensuring the highest quality of our organic coffee beans. You will perform visual inspection and manual sorting of coffee beans to remove defects, foreign materials, and imperfect beans, contributing directly to the exceptional taste and quality that Ethical Bean Coffee is known for. This position requires excellent attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work consistently within a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspection of roasted and/or green coffee beans to identify and remove defects such as insect damage, broken beans, unroasted beans, and foreign materials.
- Operate and monitor sorting equipment, making minor adjustments as needed under supervision.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to all food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP, GMP).
- Accurately record sorting data, including quantities sorted and defects removed.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to identify common defect patterns and suggest process improvements.
- Follow all company safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist with other production tasks as required, which may involve light lifting or moving materials.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Exceptional attention to detail and visual acuity.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a quality control or food production environment.
- Familiarity with coffee bean defects and grading standards.
- Experience working with small tools or precision tasks.
