Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Chemistry Teacher to join our dynamic Science department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging Chemistry lessons to students across various key stages, inspiring a passion for the subject, and preparing them for examinations. This role involves fostering an exciting and challenging learning environment, contributing to curriculum development, and actively participating in the wider school community. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Chemistry lessons to students of all abilities, adhering to the Scottish curriculum (SQA).
  • Assess, monitor, record, and report on the learning and progress of students, providing constructive feedback.
  • Create a stimulating and safe learning environment, including effective management of laboratory resources and safety protocols.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Science department and across the school to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, school-wide events, and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the extracurricular life of the school, potentially through science clubs or academic support sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and well-being.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
  • Demonstrable strong subject knowledge in Chemistry, capable of teaching up to advanced higher levels.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • A genuine passion for teaching Chemistry and inspiring young minds.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) curriculum.
  • Experience incorporating digital learning tools and technologies into Chemistry lessons.
  • A Master's degree in Chemistry or Education.
  • Prior experience in a similar teaching role within a secondary school setting.
