Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and physically fit Drivers Mate to join our busy team in Peterborough. As a Drivers Mate, you will play a crucial role in supporting our drivers with the efficient and safe delivery of parcels to residential and business customers across Cambridgeshire and surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is eager to work, enjoys a varied routine, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal entry-level position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the driver with loading and unloading parcels at the depot and at customer locations.
- Navigate routes efficiently using provided tools and local knowledge.
- Ensure all parcels are delivered safely and securely, following company procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, handling enquiries professionally.
- Accurately record delivery and collection information using handheld devices.
- Communicate effectively with the driver and depot staff regarding any issues or delays.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle interior.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy parcels safely and repeatedly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A proactive and helpful attitude.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to handle delivery notes and devices.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including some weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a delivery or warehouse environment is a plus but not essential.
- Knowledge of the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire road networks.
- Customer service experience.
