Job Description
Are you a student passionate about understanding user behavior and improving digital experiences? Google is looking for a motivated Junior UI/UX Researcher for a student placement in our Newcastle upon Tyne office. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading technology company, working alongside experienced researchers, designers, and product managers. You’ll contribute to real-world projects, applying research methodologies to gather insights that will inform product development and enhance the user journey. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of various user research activities, including usability testing, interviews, surveys, and field studies.
- Observe and document user interactions, behaviors, and feedback across different Google products and services.
- Help analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, product managers, and engineers to translate research findings into actionable insights.
- Contribute to the creation of research artifacts such as user journey maps, personas, and affinity diagrams.
- Support the preparation and presentation of research findings to internal stakeholders.
- Learn and apply best practices in user research methodology and ethical considerations.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, Information Science, Design, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of user-centered design principles and research methodologies.
- Strong observational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with common research tools (e.g., survey platforms, remote usability testing software).
- A portfolio showcasing academic or personal projects involving user research or design thinking.
- Experience with data analysis and synthesis.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis or data visualization.
- Familiarity with Google's product ecosystem.
