Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and analytical Credit Risk Analyst to join our dynamic team in Birkenhead. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in assessing, monitoring, and mitigating credit risks across our diverse portfolio. You will work with various business units, employing robust analytical techniques to provide insights that support sound lending decisions and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This is an on-site position based in our Birkenhead office, offering a challenging yet rewarding environment for a professional dedicated to risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth credit analysis of corporate and retail clients, including financial statement analysis and cash flow projections.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit proposals and recommendations for approval.
  • Monitor existing credit portfolios for early warning signs of deterioration and propose appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies, regulatory requirements, and internal risk appetite statements.
  • Develop and maintain credit risk models, performing validation and back-testing where necessary.
  • Collaborate with sales, relationship managers, and legal teams to structure credit facilities.
  • Prepare regular risk reports for management, highlighting key trends and exposures.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, financial software).
  • Solid understanding of credit risk principles, financial products, and banking regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional qualification such as CFA, FRM, or ACA.
  • Experience with credit rating agencies' methodologies.
  • Familiarity with risk management software (e.g., SAS, Python for data analysis).
  • Knowledge of local market conditions and economic indicators in the UK.
