Job Description
Are you ready to kickstart your career in international trade and logistics from the comfort of your home? Expeditors International is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Virtual Customs & Trade Assistant. This is an entry-level, 100% remote position designed for individuals eager to learn the complexities of customs regulations, international trade compliance, and global supply chain operations. You will support our customs brokerage team by assisting with documentation, data entry, research, and client communication, playing a crucial role in ensuring smooth and compliant cross-border movements of goods. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain foundational knowledge and practical experience in a fast-paced global industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and processing of customs documentation, including import/export declarations and related permits.
- Perform accurate data entry into customs software and internal systems, maintaining meticulous records.
- Conduct research on customs regulations, trade agreements, and tariff classifications under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with clients, carriers, and government agencies to resolve discrepancies and gather necessary information.
- Support the customs brokerage team in daily operational tasks, ensuring timely and compliant cargo release.
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical files, adhering to company and regulatory standards.
- Learn and apply knowledge of Incoterms, HTS classifications, and other international trade concepts.
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or some college coursework in business, logistics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of international trade concepts or supply chain.
- Experience with virtual communication and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
- Multilingual abilities (especially Spanish or Mandarin).
