Job Description
Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking for a fulfilling entry-level role? PDSA in Rotherham is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Trainee Kennel Hand to join our compassionate team. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with no prior experience to kickstart a rewarding career in animal care. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training, learning all aspects of kennel management and animal welfare under the guidance of experienced professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily cleaning and maintenance of kennels, catteries, and animal exercise areas to ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment.
- Feed and water animals according to strict dietary schedules and requirements, monitoring consumption and reporting any concerns.
- Provide basic handling and exercise for animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Observe animals closely for any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes, reporting findings to senior staff.
- Assist with the admission and discharge of animals, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Support veterinary nurses and vets with animal restraint during examinations and treatments when required.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring kennels are stocked with necessary food, bedding, and cleaning materials.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development related to animal care and welfare practices.

Preferred Qualifications

- First aid knowledge (for animals or humans).
- GCSEs or equivalent, particularly in science subjects.
