Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Sterilization Technician to join our vital Medical Industry team in Sheffield. This crucial role involves ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper functioning of medical instruments and equipment used in various clinical settings. You will play a key part in patient safety and infection control, adhering to the highest standards and protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, inspect, package, and sterilize reusable medical instruments and equipment.
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and sonic cleaners.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
  • Perform quality checks on sterilized items to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify and report any malfunctioning equipment or damaged instruments.
  • Manage inventory of sterile supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper rotation.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control policies and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely availability of sterilized equipment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in sterile processing or a similar healthcare environment.
  • Strong understanding of infection control principles and sterilization techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately.
  • High level of attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, and push heavy carts.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (e.g., IAHCSMM, CBSPD or equivalent).
  • Experience with various types of medical instruments and surgical trays.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to sterile services.
  • Previous experience in an NHS Trust setting.
