Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (TA) to support our academic staff and students. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about education, eager to contribute to a stimulating learning environment, and develop their skills within a prestigious higher education institution. The TA will assist in various academic activities, ensuring students receive the necessary support to excel in their studies and achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to students in classroom settings, laboratories, or workshops.
  • Assist with the preparation of teaching materials, resources, and equipment.
  • Facilitate small group discussions, tutorials, and provide one-on-one assistance to students.
  • Help supervise student practical work, projects, and assignments.
  • Support the marking of assignments and provide constructive feedback under academic supervision.
  • Maintain an organised, safe, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with academic staff, students, and other university departments.
  • Adhere to all university policies and procedures, including those related to student welfare and data protection.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities, with attention to detail.
  • A genuine interest in supporting student learning and development.
  • Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A-levels or equivalent qualifications (e.g., BTEC Level 3, Access to HE Diploma).
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic field (or currently pursuing studies towards one).
  • Previous experience in an educational setting, tutoring, or mentoring role (even informal).
  • Familiarity with virtual learning environments (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle).
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and practices.
