Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Summer Camp Nurse to join our dedicated team for the upcoming camp season in the Springfield, Missouri area. This is a unique opportunity to provide essential healthcare services in a vibrant, outdoor, and youth-focused environment. The Camp Nurse will be responsible for the overall health and safety of campers and staff, administering first aid, managing medications, and responding to medical emergencies. This seasonal role includes comfortable on-site housing and meals, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the camp experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to campers and staff for illnesses and injuries.
  • Administer prescribed medications according to camp policy and physician's orders.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all campers and staff.
  • Assess health needs, develop care plans, and communicate with parents/guardians as necessary.
  • Manage and maintain a fully stocked and organized health center (infirmary).
  • Oversee health screenings upon arrival and departure of campers.
  • Educate staff on health and safety protocols, including emergency procedures and universal precautions.
  • Collaborate with camp directors and leadership to ensure a healthy and safe camp environment.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all medical emergencies, coordinating with local emergency services when needed.
  • Monitor sanitation and hygiene practices throughout the camp.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to campers who may be feeling unwell or homesick.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri (or eligible for licensure reciprocity).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (BLS required, ACLS preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, school health, or emergency care.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for record keeping.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for health record management.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in emergency situations.
  • Physical ability to navigate camp terrain and participate in outdoor activities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a summer camp or similar youth program setting.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) or similar pediatric certification.
  • Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and injuries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
