Job Description
Are you passionate about healthcare and eager to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting? Quest Diagnostics is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Phlebotomy Intern to join our team in Indianapolis. Key Responsibilities
- Observe and assist certified phlebotomists in performing venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages.
- Learn proper patient identification and specimen labeling techniques to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
- Familiarize yourself with different types of blood collection tubes and their specific uses.
- Understand and adhere to strict infection control protocols and safety procedures.
- Practice excellent communication skills when interacting with patients, explaining procedures, and addressing concerns.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked phlebotomy area.
- Learn about specimen processing, handling, and transportation requirements.
- Participate in training sessions and complete assigned learning modules.
- Document observations and complete any required internship logs or reports.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a healthcare-related program (e.g., medical assistant, nursing, phlebotomy technician program).
- Strong interest in healthcare and clinical laboratory work.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols.
- Compassionate and patient-focused demeanor.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observation experience in a clinical setting.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
