Job Description
Are you a motivated individual looking to kickstart a career in logistics and transportation? The UPS Student Driver Program offers a unique ‘learn and earn’ opportunity for aspiring drivers. This program provides comprehensive paid training to obtain your commercial driver’s license (CDL) while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment. You will receive a weekly stipend as you learn the ropes of package delivery, safety protocols, and route management, with the potential for full-time employment upon successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions to learn safe driving practices and company procedures.
- Operate company vehicles under direct supervision, adhering to all traffic laws and UPS safety regulations.
- Learn to efficiently load, unload, and deliver packages to various destinations on assigned routes.
- Develop proficiency in using handheld technology for tracking deliveries and managing customer interactions.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, representing UPS's commitment to reliability and professionalism.
- Collaborate with experienced drivers and supervisors to enhance learning and practical skills.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no moving violations in the past 12 months).
- Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical certification.
- Commitment to completing a rigorous training program.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with local geographical area (Santa Clarita and surrounding regions).
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
- Customer service experience.
