Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Stagehand Assistant to join our night-time technical team. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth execution of our theatre and concert productions, primarily focusing on evening and late-night operations. You will support the technical crew in setting up, running, and striking sets, lighting, and sound equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about live performance to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic theatrical environment. Flexibility and a willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the loading, unloading, and positioning of sets, props, lighting, and sound equipment.
- Support the technical team during performances, including scene changes and equipment adjustments.
- Operate basic stage machinery and tools under supervision.
- Participate in the strike (dismantling) of productions after performances.
- Ensure all stage areas are kept clean, organized, and safe for cast and crew.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and venue policies.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment as directed.
- Provide general assistance to the production and technical departments as needed.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25kg) and work for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of stagecraft or a strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, especially for night shifts.
- A keen interest in theatre and live events.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a theatre, event, or live production environment.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, or rigging principles.
- First Aid certification.
- Formal training in technical theatre or stage management.
