  • Communicate effectively and continuously with heavy haul truck drivers, dispatch, and relevant authorities using two-way radios and other communication tools.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential hazards, including low overhead clearances, narrow passages, road construction, utility lines, and traffic congestion.
  • Assist in route planning and reconnaissance to ensure optimal, safe, and efficient passage for oversized loads.
  • Manage traffic flow and provide clear, consistent signals to other motorists to ensure safe movement around the heavy haul convoy.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of pilot vehicles and all escort equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and detailed incident reports as required by company policy and regulatory bodies.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and all applicable transportation regulations at all times.

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven, verifiable experience as a pilot/escort driver specifically for heavy haul or oversized loads.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of provincial, state, and federal transportation regulations pertaining to oversized loads.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, especially under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make critical decisions swiftly, and manage time effectively.
  • High degree of flexibility to travel extensively across long distances and work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proven ability to adapt to and safely navigate challenging road conditions and adverse weather environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pilot/Escort Driver training from a recognized institution.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience with specific types of specialized loads (e.g., wind turbines, modular buildings, large construction equipment).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting on the road.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family.
  • All approved travel expenses fully reimbursed, including generous per diems.
  • Provision of a company-owned, well-maintained, and fully equipped specialized pilot vehicle.
