Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference and keen to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit sector? Cancer Research UK is seeking a motivated Special Events & Gala Fundraising Intern to join our Development team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-profile fundraising events that are crucial to our mission. You will play a vital role in the planning, execution, and follow-up of various special events, including our annual gala, donor cultivation events, and community fundraising initiatives. This is an excellent chance to learn about event management, donor relations, and fundraising strategy within a leading charity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of special events, including galas, donor receptions, and community fundraisers.
  • Support logistical arrangements such as venue booking, vendor liaison, catering, and entertainment.
  • Help manage event guest lists, invitations, and RSVPs.
  • Prepare event materials, including presentations, programs, signage, and promotional items.
  • Provide administrative support to the Development team, including data entry, filing, and correspondence.
  • Assist with post-event activities, including donor thank-yous, feedback collection, and financial reconciliation.
  • Research potential donors, sponsors, and event partners.
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming for new fundraising initiatives and event themes.
  • Attend and support events on-site, ensuring smooth operations.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative.
  • Genuine interest in non-profit work and fundraising.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Marketing, Communications, Event Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous volunteer experience in event planning or fundraising.
  • Familiarity with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) is a plus.
  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva) are an advantage.
