Job Description
We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and creative Special Effects Makeup (SFX) Intern to join our dynamic production team in Birkenhead. This internship offers a unique opportunity for an aspiring SFX artist to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced television production environment. You will work closely with experienced makeup artists, learning fundamental techniques and contributing to various projects. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for transforming characters and creating captivating visual effects through makeup.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior SFX makeup artists with the preparation of materials, prosthetics, and tools for various shoots.
- Learn and practice a range of SFX techniques including wound simulation, aging, character transformations, and creature effects.
- Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe makeup station and workspace.
- Support the team with research and development for new effects and materials.
- Assist with the application and removal of SFX makeup on talent, under direct supervision.
- Shadow and observe on-set makeup application and touch-ups.
- Contribute creative ideas during conceptualisation and planning stages of SFX requirements.
- Manage inventory and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of makeup principles and hygiene practices.
- Demonstrated interest and foundational knowledge in special effects makeup.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Portfolio (digital or physical) showcasing any personal SFX makeup work or projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant makeup artistry, film production, or art program.
- Prior experience with basic prosthetics, sculpting, or moulding techniques.
- Familiarity with film or television set etiquette and production processes.
- A keen eye for colour theory and texture.
