Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Parking Enforcement Officer to join our municipal team in Blainville. In this essential council role, you will be responsible for upholding traffic and parking regulations to ensure the safe and efficient flow of vehicles and pedestrians throughout the city. This position involves active patrolling, issuing citations, responding to public inquiries, and contributing directly to community safety and compliance. A uniform will be provided for this role, emphasizing your official capacity and commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot or by vehicle to enforce municipal parking bylaws and regulations.
- Identify and issue citations for parking violations such as expired meters, prohibited parking zones, time limits, and unauthorized parking.
- Respond to public complaints and inquiries regarding parking issues, providing clear and concise information.
- Maintain accurate records of all issued citations, warnings, and related incidents.
- Operate handheld devices and other equipment for data entry and violation tracking.
- Collaborate with other municipal departments and emergency services as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents and visitors, answering questions and directing them appropriately.
- Report any observed public safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate authorities.
- Assist in the resolution of parking disputes and ensure fair and consistent application of bylaws.
Required Skills
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Good judgment and problem-solving abilities.
- Physical stamina to walk and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Basic computer literacy for operating enforcement devices and record keeping.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public, even in challenging situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in law enforcement, security, or customer service roles.
- Knowledge of municipal bylaws and traffic regulations, particularly those specific to Quebec.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is a significant asset.
- Experience with handheld citation devices or similar enforcement technology.
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a related field is a plus.
