Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Park Ranger Assistant and contribute to the vital conservation work of the National Trust. Based in the beautiful landscapes surrounding Bath, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the natural beauty and ecological health of our properties. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals passionate about the outdoors and eager to make a tangible difference in environmental stewardship and visitor engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior rangers with daily conservation tasks, including habitat management, path maintenance, and litter collection.
  • Support the upkeep of visitor facilities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
  • Participate in wildlife surveys and monitoring programs.
  • Engage with visitors, providing information about the park, its wildlife, and the work of the National Trust.
  • Help with practical maintenance tasks, such as fencing, signage repair, and basic equipment upkeep.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and provide assistance as needed, ensuring high standards of customer service.
  • Contribute to volunteer supervision and training for various conservation projects.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and promote safe working practices.
  • Support emergency response procedures as required.

Required Skills

  • A genuine passion for conservation, wildlife, and the outdoors.
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of UK flora and fauna.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in land management and conservation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an outdoor or conservation-related role (paid or voluntary).
  • Basic first aid certification.
  • Chainsaw certificate (cross-cutting and felling small trees).
  • Experience with basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Full UK driving license.
