Job Description

NewsGuard Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Online Fact Checker to join our team in a junior research role, specifically focused on content relevant to 16-year-old teens. This is an incredible opportunity for someone passionate about media literacy, critical thinking, and ensuring the accuracy of online information for a crucial demographic. You will be instrumental in identifying, verifying, and combating misinformation prevalent across various online platforms, helping to equip young people with the tools to navigate the digital world responsibly. This position is 100% remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough online research to verify facts, claims, and data points found in online content targeted at or consumed by 16-year-old teens.
  • Evaluate the credibility of sources, identifying bias, lack of evidence, or potential for misinformation in articles, social media posts, videos, and other digital formats.
  • Cross-reference information using reliable and diverse sources, including academic databases, reputable news organizations, and official government or expert reports.
  • Prepare concise and accurate reports summarizing findings and detailing the factual accuracy or inaccuracy of reviewed content.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging trends in youth media consumption, popular online platforms, and common misinformation tactics affecting teenagers.
  • Collaborate with senior researchers and content specialists to refine fact-checking methodologies and improve reporting standards.
  • Contribute to educational initiatives aimed at improving media literacy among young people.

  • Exceptional research and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities to evaluate information objectively and identify logical fallacies or biases.
  • Excellent written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
