Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Occupational Health Nurse to join our compassionate and dedicated team. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in promoting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of our diverse workforce. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive occupational health services, including health surveillance, sickness absence management, immunisation programmes, and health promotion initiatives. This role requires a proactive approach to occupational health, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting our staff in a challenging and rewarding environment. You will work autonomously while also being an integral part of our wider occupational health department, contributing to a healthy and safe workplace for all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting pre-employment health assessments and health surveillance programs.
  • Managing sickness absence cases, including referrals to occupational health physicians and providing return-to-work advice.
  • Delivering immunisation and vaccination programs in line with national guidance.
  • Providing health promotion and education to staff on a range of topics.
  • Conducting workplace risk assessments and advising on preventative measures.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential occupational health records.
  • Collaborating with line managers, HR, and other departments to support employee health.
  • Participating in policy development and service improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (NMC PIN required)
  • Post-registration qualification in Occupational Health (Diploma or Degree)
  • Proven experience working as an Occupational Health Nurse
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong assessment and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records and IT systems
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Up-to-date knowledge of occupational health legislation and best practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within an NHS Trust or large healthcare organisation
  • Experience in managing complex sickness absence cases
  • Qualification in spirometry or audiometry
  • Counselling skills or mental health first aid qualification
