Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and looking to start a rewarding career in animal care? Vets4Pets Portsmouth is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kennel Assistant to join our vibrant team. No prior experience is needed – we believe in nurturing talent and providing comprehensive training to the right candidate. This is an incredible opportunity to learn foundational skills in a supportive environment, working directly with a variety of animals and contributing to their well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a high standard of hygiene.
- Providing fresh food and water to animals according to their specific dietary requirements.
- Assisting with walking, exercising, and socializing animals, following established protocols.
- Monitoring animal behaviour and health, reporting any changes or concerns to veterinary staff.
- Restocking supplies and ensuring the kennel area is always well-organized.
- Assisting veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and handling during examinations or procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records of animal feeding, medication, and waste.
- Comforting and providing companionship to animals, especially those who are anxious or recovering.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for long periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a team player attitude.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with animals (e.g., pet ownership, volunteering) is a bonus but not required.
- Basic understanding of animal behaviour.
- First aid certification (human or animal).
