Job Description

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Remote FOIA Analyst to join our team, focusing on government transparency initiatives. This role is critical in upholding public access to government information by meticulously processing, analyzing, and responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with federal FOIA regulations, conducting comprehensive record searches, and preparing accurate, timely responses, all while working from a remote setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and process incoming Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in accordance with federal statutes and agency guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough and systematic searches for responsive records across various databases and physical archives.
  • Review, analyze, and redact sensitive or privileged information from records based on applicable FOIA exemptions.
  • Draft clear, concise, and legally sound responses to FOIA requesters, explaining any withholdings or disclosures.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments and external government agencies to obtain necessary information and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all FOIA requests, actions taken, and correspondence.
  • Stay current with developments in FOIA law, privacy regulations, and related government transparency policies.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding FOIA compliance and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and its exemptions.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on legal and technical writing.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in utilizing legal research databases and document management systems.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Capable of working independently in a remote environment while maintaining high productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Legal Studies, Public Administration, Library Science, or a related field.
  • Paralegal certification or equivalent legal training.
  • Experience with e-discovery platforms or advanced document review software.
  • Familiarity with state-specific public records laws (e.g., California Public Records Act).
  • Previous experience working with government agencies or public sector clients.
