Job Description

Chevron is seeking a dedicated and experienced Refinery Safety Marshall for a night shift differential position based in Downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. This critical role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained across all refinery operations during night shift hours. The successful candidate will proactively identify hazards, enforce safety protocols, and respond to incidents to protect personnel, assets, and the environment. This position requires strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of industrial safety regulations and best practices within a complex refinery setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and walk-throughs during night shifts to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Chevron safety policies, industry regulations (OSHA, EPA), and best practices.
  • Lead incident response efforts for emergencies, accidents, and near-misses, coordinating with relevant teams and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Manage the Permit-to-Work system for all night shift activities, verifying compliance and safe execution of tasks.
  • Provide safety briefings, training, and guidance to night shift personnel, fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Investigate all safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related concerns and issues during the night shift.
  • Collaborate with day shift safety teams to ensure seamless handover and consistent application of safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial safety role, preferably within a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Proven ability to effectively respond to and manage emergency situations, including fire, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail for hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in using safety monitoring equipment and incident reporting software.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure during night shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional safety certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional – CSP, Occupational Health and Safety Technologist – OHST, Construction Health and Safety Technician – CHST).
  • Experience with advanced safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
