Job Description

Dignity Funerals is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Grave Digger to join our team in Glasgow. This vital role involves the preparation of graves, ensuring all burials are conducted with the utmost respect and adherence to safety standards. The successful candidate will be a crucial part of providing a professional and empathetic service to bereaved families during difficult times. This is an on-site role, requiring physical presence at our cemetery locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Excavating and backfilling graves to required specifications, using both manual and mechanical equipment.
  • Ensuring graves are prepared safely and tidily for burial services.
  • Maintaining cemetery grounds, including landscaping, grass cutting, and general upkeep.
  • Operating and maintaining various groundskeeping equipment and machinery.
  • Assisting with the placement and removal of floral tributes.
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Interacting respectfully and professionally with bereaved families and funeral directors.
  • Participating in out-of-hours duties as required.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in operating excavation equipment (e.g., mini diggers) or willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Compassionate and respectful demeanor.
  • Reliability and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Full UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, construction, or a similar outdoor physical role.
  • Experience with cemetery operations or funeral services.
  • Certification in operating digging machinery.
  • Horticultural knowledge or experience.
