Job Description

Are you a passionate and knowledgeable horticulturist with a flair for teaching? Dobbies Garden Centres is seeking an enthusiastic Gardening Tutor to join our team in Kingston upon Hull. You will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging practical and theoretical gardening workshops and one-on-one sessions for diverse audiences, from beginners to more experienced enthusiasts. This role is perfect for someone who loves sharing their expertise and helping others grow their green thumb.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive and engaging gardening workshop content and lesson plans.
  • Deliver practical and theoretical gardening tutorials to groups and individual clients.
  • Educate participants on various aspects of gardening, including plant care, propagation, soil health, pest control, seasonal planting, and garden design.
  • Provide tailored advice and guidance based on participants' skill levels and interests.
  • Maintain a safe and inspiring learning environment.
  • Keep up-to-date with current horticultural trends and techniques.
  • Assist with the preparation and tidying of workshop areas and materials.
  • Evaluate workshop effectiveness and gather feedback for continuous improvement.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise and experience in horticulture or gardening.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to explain complex gardening concepts in an understandable and engaging manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for teaching and helping others learn.
  • Organizational skills for planning and executing workshops.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of plants, tools, and gardening techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A horticultural qualification (e.g., RHS Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in a teaching, tutoring, or training role.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
  • Experience with various gardening styles and plant types suited to the local climate.
