Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Forensic Toxicologist (Chemist) to join our team, focusing on Adliye (legal) and courtroom support. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex chemical analyses on biological samples to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances in forensic cases. This role demands a strong scientific background, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to articulate complex scientific findings clearly and concisely in reports and expert testimony within a legal framework. You will play a crucial role in providing scientific evidence for criminal investigations and legal proceedings across Florida.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, hair) for drugs, alcohol, and other toxic substances using various analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay).
  • Interpret complex analytical data and results, applying forensic toxicology principles to assess the presence and effects of toxic substances.
  • Prepare comprehensive, scientifically sound, and legally defensible laboratory reports detailing analytical findings, methodologies, and conclusions.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court proceedings, grand jury hearings, and depositions, presenting forensic findings clearly and professionally to legal professionals and juries.
  • Maintain and calibrate sophisticated laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Participate in method development, validation, and optimization for new and existing analytical procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, chain of custody procedures, and quality control guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement officials, attorneys, and other forensic professionals.
  • Stay current with advancements in forensic toxicology, analytical chemistry, and relevant legal standards.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in Forensic Toxicology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay analyzers).
  • Strong understanding of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to draft clear scientific reports and provide expert testimony.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control practices in a forensic laboratory setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT).
  • Experience in a legal support role, interacting directly with legal professionals and courts.
  • Knowledge of Florida state statutes and regulations pertaining to forensic evidence and expert testimony.
  • Demonstrated experience in method development and validation.
  • Previous experience working within a government forensic laboratory or similar accredited facility.
