Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our exceptional team. As an L&D Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to expectant mothers, during labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum, as well as care for newborns. This role requires an individual with strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction. You will work 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, contributing to a vital department that celebrates new life and supports families through one of life’s most significant events.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and care for laboring mothers, including fetal monitoring and interpretation.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout the birthing process.
- Assist physicians during delivery and perform immediate newborn assessments.
- Monitor and care for mothers in the immediate postpartum period, including vital signs, fundal checks, and pain management.
- Educate new parents on infant care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly.
- Respond to emergency situations with critical thinking and swift action.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain a sterile and safe environment for mothers and newborns.
Required Skills
- Current RN license in Florida or compact state.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery.
- Proficient in fetal monitoring and interpretation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure and make quick, sound decisions.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB).
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus.
