Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required training programs to obtain a Class 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement, or equivalent, for passenger vehicles.
- Learn and adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies and procedures.
- Practice safe and defensive driving techniques under supervision.
- Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service to all passengers.
- Assist passengers with disabilities, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices.
- Learn to operate transit buses safely and efficiently on designated routes, adhering to schedules.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, reporting any defects or issues.
- Handle fares and issue transfers accurately.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations staff regarding route conditions, delays, or incidents.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance and uphold the company's reputation for service excellence.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Class 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement during the training period.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in various traffic and passenger situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Familiarity with the geography and roadways of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or understanding of vehicle operation.
