Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all required training programs to obtain a Class 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement, or equivalent, for passenger vehicles.
  • Learn and adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Practice safe and defensive driving techniques under supervision.
  • Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service to all passengers.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices.
  • Learn to operate transit buses safely and efficiently on designated routes, adhering to schedules.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, reporting any defects or issues.
  • Handle fares and issue transfers accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations staff regarding route conditions, delays, or incidents.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance and uphold the company's reputation for service excellence.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Class 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement during the training period.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in various traffic and passenger situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Familiarity with the geography and roadways of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or understanding of vehicle operation.
