Job Description

Are you a true bibliophile with a knack for organization and an eye for aesthetics? Indigo Books & Music is seeking a dedicated Bookcase & Collection Organizer to help our discerning clients create beautifully curated and perfectly organized personal libraries and book collections. This unique role combines your passion for literature with your organizational prowess, delivering a premium service that transforms spaces and enhances the reading experience. You will work directly with clients, understanding their collections, preferences, and space constraints to design and implement tailored organization systems. This is an exciting opportunity to bring order and beauty to the literary worlds of our most valued customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consult with clients to understand their existing book collections, reading habits, and desired aesthetic.
  • Assess available space and existing shelving solutions, recommending optimal layouts and storage strategies.
  • Categorize, sort, and arrange books by genre, author, color, size, or client preference.
  • Implement effective inventory and cataloging systems for large or specialized collections.
  • Provide recommendations for additional shelving, display units, or organizational tools.
  • Carefully handle and transport books, ensuring their preservation.
  • Educate clients on best practices for maintaining their organized collections.
  • Maintain discretion and professionalism while working in clients' private residences.
  • Document project progress and outcomes, ensuring client satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Proven passion for books and literature, with broad knowledge across various genres.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong aesthetic sensibility and ability to create visually appealing arrangements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client consultations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Physical stamina to lift and move boxes of books, and spend extended periods on your feet.
  • Proficiency in basic inventory or cataloging software (e.g., spreadsheet programs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in professional organizing, interior design, library science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various book preservation techniques.
  • Experience working in a client-facing service role, especially in luxury or bespoke services.
  • A degree or certification in library science, archival studies, or interior design.
  • Portfolio showcasing organizational projects or aesthetic arrangements.
