Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ballistics Expert to join our advanced research and development team in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. This critical role involves conducting in-depth analysis of ballistic performance, material science related to impact, and forensic ballistics for various defense and security applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in physics, engineering, or forensic science with specialized expertise in terminal ballistics, internal ballistics, and external ballistics. You will be instrumental in developing and testing new materials, protective systems, and advanced weapon technologies. A comprehensive relocation package is supported for qualified candidates willing to move to the Corner Brook area.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ballistic testing and analysis using advanced instrumentation and methodologies.
- Design and execute experiments to evaluate projectile performance, material penetration, and fragmentation effects.
- Analyze data from ballistic tests, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
- Develop and validate ballistic models and simulations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on the design and optimization of new ballistic protective systems and weapon components.
- Provide expert advice on forensic ballistics for incident reconstruction and material failure analysis.
- Maintain and operate specialized ballistic testing equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards in all testing procedures.
- Stay abreast of advancements in ballistics research, materials science, and defense technologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Forensic Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in ballistics research, testing, or forensic analysis.
- Proficiency in ballistic instrumentation (e.g., high-speed cameras, Doppler radar, pressure sensors).
- Strong understanding of internal, external, and terminal ballistics principles.
- Experience with data analysis software and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS, LS-DYNA).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Eligibility for Canadian security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience in the defense or aerospace industry.
- Knowledge of ordnance, ammunition design, and explosive effects.
- Certification in forensic ballistics or firearms examination.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation standards.
