Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Pothole Repair Crew Member to join our Local Government Roadworks team. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the timely and effective repair of potholes and other road surface deficiencies across the City of Stratford. This position requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and a commitment to quality workmanship, ensuring our city’s roads remain safe and accessible for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and identify potholes and road surface defects.
- Prepare work sites, including setting up traffic control and safety signage.
- Clean and prepare areas for repair, removing debris and loose materials.
- Apply asphalt patching materials using various tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, tampers, vibratory plates).
- Operate light machinery and vehicles as required for repair tasks.
- Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete projects efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow crew members.
- Document completed work and report any issues encountered.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, often outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and small power equipment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, road maintenance, or a similar outdoor labor role.
- Valid Ontario G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating light construction equipment (e.g., skid steers, rollers).
- Familiarity with municipal road maintenance standards and procedures.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
