Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Physics Specialist to join our dynamic team in Liverpool. This pivotal role involves providing expert advice and support on radiation protection and safety across various projects and facilities. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring radiation safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to national and international regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation protection programs in compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., IRR17).
- Conduct detailed radiation surveys, contamination monitoring, and dose assessments.
- Provide expert health physics advice and guidance to project teams, management, and personnel.
- Investigate radiation-related incidents, recommend corrective actions, and prepare detailed reports.
- Deliver radiation safety training to staff at all levels.
- Specify, calibrate, and maintain radiation detection and measurement instrumentation.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to radiological incidents.
- Review and approve work permits, procedures, and safety assessments for radiological work.
- Stay current with developments in radiation protection science, technology, and legislation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in health physics or radiation protection.
- Demonstrable knowledge of UK radiation protection legislation (e.g., Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017).
- Proficiency in radiation detection instrumentation and measurement techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical information clearly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Health Physics or a related field.
- Professional certification such as Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) or equivalent.
- Experience in a specific sector such as nuclear power, medical physics, or environmental remediation.
- Project management experience, particularly in managing radiological aspects of projects.
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulations or other advanced dosimetry techniques.
