Job Description

Join the YMCA of Three Rivers as a Part-time Childcare Assistant with an Early Learning Focus at our Doon South location. In this pivotal role, you will work collaboratively with Early Childhood Educators to create engaging and supportive learning environments for children, primarily in pre-school age groups. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about child development, eager to contribute to a child’s foundational learning experiences, and seeking flexible hours within a renowned community-focused organization. You will assist in daily operations, implement age-appropriate activities, and ensure the well-being and safety of all children under your care, adhering to YMCA’s high standards and provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Early Childhood Educators in planning and implementing daily programs and activities tailored to the children's developmental needs.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
  • Help with routine tasks such as snack time, rest periods, and personal care (e.g., toileting, changing diapers if applicable for younger groups).
  • Observe and document children's progress and behaviour, communicating effectively with lead educators and parents as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the classroom and activity areas.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies, procedures, and provincial licensing regulations for childcare centres.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for working with children and supporting their early development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Basic understanding of child development stages and age-appropriate activities.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) working in a licensed childcare setting, school, or similar environment.
  • Enrollment in or completion of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) program or related field.
  • Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years.
  • Familiarity with YMCA programming and values.
