Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Waste Management Driver to join our team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This critical role involves operating collection vehicles on established routes, primarily serving public sector contracts within the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient collection and transportation of various waste materials, ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a heavy-duty collection truck on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and company safety policies.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any issues.
- Collect and transport waste and recyclable materials from residential and commercial locations as per scheduled routes.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and customers regarding service issues or route changes.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle, ensuring proper functionality of all equipment.
- Complete daily route sheets, logs, and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations related to waste management and transportation.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as required, ensuring proper weight distribution and secure transport.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and vehicle safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience (1+ years) operating heavy commercial vehicles, preferably in waste collection.
- Familiarity with Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas.
- Experience with public sector contracts or municipal services.
